I am amazed at the number of people who seem to think a decision of the congress and a gov agency can't be reversed and many are shuttle lovers who apparently aren't that upset over the shuttle retirement which is rather amazing. The whole situation is unbelievable and quite disgusting.
This decision must be reversed, it is totally lacking in logic. None of the new systems with their big costs 100's of billions will come close to the shuttle capability.
The whole deal is one of the biggest scams ever perpetrated on the American taxpayer.
NASA leaders, CAIB chairman Gehman, ASAP chair Dyer should be called before a senate/ house subcommittee to elaborate on their nonsensical position on shuttle safety.
Look at NASA paper SP 2010-578, link on site, the Crewed Soyus appendix on the " analysis" of the manned rating of Soyus and the dangerous aspects of the Soyus landing operations.
Compare with the shuttle landing operations, what a contrast--no comparison.
Look at the capabilities of the shuttle, compare to any of the other systems that are available in any other country--shuttle is magnificent.
Read the Case to Save the Shuttle. Once you read this paper and think about the content, you have to demand returning the shuttle to flight.
The Russians landed the Braun automatically without a crew. As with the x37 the USA has the capability to do this with the shuttle and an improved version , shuttle 2 .
This should be done ASAP, the american people should demand the shuttle be placed back in service as soon as possible.
It is strange some space writers, media people, astronauts and former astronauts, present and retired NASA/contractor employees seem to have a " dont give a dam" attitude
or are not too upset about the shuttle retirement.
This situation ought to make everybody mad as hell. Talk about the absolute big time waste , and it is totally unnecessary
