The final Mission Control Center (MCC) internal simulation was successfully completed last week. The team also successfully performed a pad radio frequency test with multiple commands received by the Orion spacecraft on the pad from the MCC. At the Kennedy Space Center, the mating of the launch vehicle and Orion Pyro harnesses was completed. This week, United Launch Alliance will perform a mission dress rehearsal. We're just nine days away until blast off!

  1. JSC VPP Slogan Contest

Recertification for JSC's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star status is scheduled to begin on Nov. 2, 2015. In preparation for the event, the JSC Safety and Health Action Team (JSAT) is sponsoring a JSC VPP Slogan Contest. The winning slogan will be used extensively in our VPP Awareness Campaign throughout the year. All JSC contractor and civil servant employees are encouraged to submit a short slogan incorporating "JSC" and "VPP." As an example, the slogan for our 2011 recertification was "JSC - VPP Strong."

Submit your entry to Reese Squires by Dec. 5. JSAT members will cast a vote for their favorite slogan, and the winner will be notified. Recognition and an award presentation for the winning slogan will take place at the JSAT meeting this January. Get your thinking cap on and show your JSC VPP pride!

   Jobs and Training

  1. Training on Transgender Inclusion

As JSC works toward creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace, it is important to increase our awareness and understanding of the issues faced by employees whose gender identity and/or expression do not match their assigned gender. Transgender persons face disproportionate amounts of discrimination, including opportunities for employment and advancement. Many federal protections for LGB persons do not extend to transgender employees, despite transgender persons being the victims of more harassment and hate crimes than any other minority group.

As co-workers and allies, we can help change this. The JSC Out and Allied Employee Resource Group is hosting Mara Keisling, director of the National Center for Transgender Equality. Keisling will address the myths and provide facts surrounding gender identity and expression; outline the workplace challenges faced by transgender employees; and provide recommendations for steps to increase inclusion and support of our transgender employees.
