Tokyo Harry

Tokyo Rose and Tokyo Harry

During World War II There was a woman, referred to as Tokyo Rose, who beamed daily short wave broadcasts at American servicemen in the Pacific theater where the war was being fought against Japan.

These broadcasts were designed to impact morale of American soldiers and sailors by telling telling them all sorts of lies, such as that America was losing the war, or that the servicemen were being betrayed by wives and families at home.

Our servicemen laughed at these assaults, because they knew the truth, and because they were being led by morale-building flag officers who were among the finest America has ever produced.

Now fast forward to the Iraq war, which Harry Reid, now Majority Leader of our United States Senate, declared to be “lost.”

When a war is lost, the loser surrenders, as did the Japanese at the end of World War II. Had Harry Reid been in charge of things in Iraq, he too would have surrendered. Reid would have yielded up his sword (figuratively) not with honor, as did Gen. Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Courthouse.

But with dishonor. Harry Reid was not on our side in Iraq. Harry Reid made every effort to make his loss assertion come to pass. Harry Reid made every effort to bring defeat upon American forces in Iraq.

As did Tokyo Rose in the Pacific theater in World War II.

For this reason we dub him “Tokyo Harry.”

But perhaps we should not be too hard on Tokyo Harry.

After all, he likely was too busy stealing from American taxpayers what Michelle Malkin calls an “$8 billion earmark for construction of his pie-in-the-sky rail lines from Los Angeles to Vegas.”

After all, what’s the use of being Majority Leader of the United States Senate if one cannot steal a few billion dollar earmarks here and there???

Tokyo Harry indeed.
