Bryant Bellamy all though i dissagree because the shuttle was great it was clearly not the best space going vehicle, be definatly need to update it. however, it should have been a clear replacement vehicle in mind.

Bobby Martin The shuttle concept is the best overall concept for getting to orbit, doing work on orbit, and placing exploration modules in orbit to go to other destinations. The shuttle needed design improvements, however, the concept can not be improved on. Suggested reading, The Case to Save the Shuttle, On the Early Retirement of the shuttle and two other papers on keeptheshuttleflying.com. None of the upcoming designs can do what the shuttle can. Furthermore we have spent 100's of billions on it and it is in a museum. You should read Glenn, Aldrin, Armstrong, Krantz, hale, Shannon, kraft, and many other experts. The shuttle should be restarted and operated commercially by USA . Read commercialize shuttle by shuttleCom. As in the Case to Save the Shuttle--it is not worn out and is not unsafe. Even if you replace it, the replacement should be operational before you proceed. We are not operating the ISS to near capacity because we don't have the shuttle. We are placing it in jeopardy. The Hubble is in danger without shuttle. Astronauts on Soyus are in danger due to parachute landings and the fact the Soyus is not manned rated. The shuttle should be restarted immediately. Our critical gov/industry team has been disbanded ---40000 out of work. Also, read the paper NASA plan puts America at Risk. The Shuttle retirement is a national disaster/tragedy. It must be restarted.

Bobby Martin Furthermore, the gap may be up to ten years before we have reliable access to EO. Many failures of the new designs will occur with many delays. Even then, none can perform as the shuttle concept.
